A Canva website is a poster with a URL
Canva is a design tool that grew a website. That is the honest sentence. You already use it for flyers, menus, and Instagram squares. Then a button appears: publish this as a site. The page looks finished on day one. The type is tasteful. The pictures sit in a grid. For a wedding invitation, a pop-up, or a one-night event, that can be enough. For a company homepage you need to own, move, and answer on a phone, it is still a poster with a URL stapled to it.
A poster is not an insult. Posters do a job. They do not take a tap-to-call the way a marketing site does. They do not give you files you can pick up. They live in Canva’s walls, next to the brand kit and the Magic Resize. You design there. You pay there. You leave, you start over. Same lock-in as Wix or Squarespace, with a stronger “I already have an account” pull.
If you like Canva and you will actually log in next month to swap a sale banner, keep using it for graphics. That is the product. The question is whether the homepage should also live there.
Where a Canva site is rational
- A weekend event, a fundraiser week, a menu you will throw away in October.
- You are testing a name and might shut it down in 60 days.
- You need a pretty link for a slide deck and nobody has to call from a parking lot.
- You enjoy the editor and you are the whole marketing department on purpose.
If that is you, stay. Do not buy $500* to please a cousin who thinks every business needs a “real” site this afternoon. A dead custom site is worse than a live Canva page with a working phone number on it.
Where it quietly fails as a company homepage
Customers on a phone. The layout that looked composed on your laptop becomes a long scroll of pretty blocks. The phone number is a picture of a number, not a tel: link. The form is a Canva add-on you never tested. The lock icon depends on their hosting, which is fine until it is not, and you are not the one who renews the certificate.
Leaving is a rebuild. There is no “download my Canva website as HTML I can host on Bluehost” that preserves the thing you designed. You will copy the words, export the images, and start again. Price that in. The hours you already spent in the editor do not transfer. They are rent you paid in time.
SEO on a builder site is whatever the platform gives you. On a standard job here, basic SEO is a title tag, a meta description, and Open Graph so a share is not a random thumbnail. That is the list. It is not a ranking prize. We will not promise #1 on Google for a page that used to be a Canva template. Nobody honest will.
| Canva website | Done-for-you here | |
|---|---|---|
| What it feels like | A designed poster you published | A marketing page built from a brief |
| Year-one cash | Canva plan + your hours | $500* once, or $27 for a page |
| Who writes the hours and phone | You, inside the editor | You in the brief; we put them on the first screen |
| Tap-to-call on a parked-car phone | Only if you built it that way | That is the job |
| You can pick it up and leave | Not really | Yes — files and hosting you control |
| Cart / app / members | Not what it is for | Not at this price — we quote those |
The alternative we sell
Cheap Fast Websites sells a standard marketing site for $1,000, or $500* if you pay in full by September 30, 2026. You brief it, we draft it, you get one round of changes, it goes live on Bluehost or the host you already have. No Canva login to babysit. Most standard jobs finish in under 72 hours when the brief is clear: name, one sentence about the work, photos of the real place, the current Canva URL so we do not invent your copy, domain or a yes that we should help you point it.
It is a marketing website. One long page or a few sections. Phone-ready. A form that notifies tampasbestdj@gmail.com, or the buttons you need. Hosting setup. Help pointing the domain. You still click at the registrar. We do not steal the name. We do not build ecommerce carts, apps, or member portals at this price. If you need those, say so and we quote them. Do not hope a brochure is a store.
$100 down starts the $1,000 job. That is not the sale. The $500 price is pay-in-full by September 30, 2026 only. If all you need is hours, phone, and three pictures this weekend, skip the full path. The $27 one-page pack is that product. You host it. +$27 lifetime hosting on our server if you want it ($54). Keep using Canva for the flyer. Put the company on a URL you can move.
Use the real photos. Canva is full of stock. Customers know a stock handshake from a job site. Phone pictures of the actual room beat a template kitchen. Ugly and true beats pretty and fake. That is also how we build. Look at live work — Dodo Leatherworks, Tampa’s Best DJ, LazerMerch. Those are this shop’s own sites, not fake client revenue. Labeled SAMPLE pages for trades live on /examples/. No fake street address. Phone 813-451-2204 is Cheap Fast Websites.
If the Canva URL already works — lock icon, a number a thumb can hit, a form you have tested — stay. Run the free check before you pay anyone, including us. If it is a pretty blank page with lorem in the About block, $500* is often cheaper than another year of “I’ll finish it in Canva on Sunday.”
Worldwide, 24/7. Bill is in Tampa. The work is not limited to Tampa. Forms notify tampasbestdj@gmail.com. Cancel the Canva site after the new one is live and the form works on a phone. Keep Canva for graphics. That split is the whole point.
Free next step: paste the Canva URL and see what a customer notices in five seconds. Then pay $500* if you want a homepage that is not a poster.
