You can leave Squarespace. The site does not come with you.
Squarespace is a rented house with nice furniture. You can leave. You take the name you bought, the photos you uploaded, and whatever copy you still have in a Google Doc. You do not take the template, the editor, or a folder of HTML you can drop on Bluehost. Export is a souvenir, not a website. If you are reading this because the monthly bill feels like rent on a room you barely use, that is the right reason. If you are leaving because a cousin said “custom is always better,” stay until you know what you are buying.
Cheap Fast Websites sells a standard marketing site for $1,000, or $500* if you pay in full by September 30, 2026. That is a rebuild, not a magic “migrate my Squarespace.” Most standard jobs finish in under 72 hours when the brief is clear. You still click at the registrar to point the domain. Nobody honest can skip that step.
What you actually take with you
The domain is yours if you paid for it. Check the account. If Squarespace is also the registrar, you can still transfer the name or point the nameservers. The name is a lease on a word. It is not the site. DNS is the arrow that says which machine answers for that word. Wrong nameservers is why “I left last Tuesday and the old site is still there” happens for a week. We give you the target. You click. Phone 813-451-2204 if you want a human in your ear while you do it.
Photos and copy are yours. Download them before you cancel. Do not assume the export zip is complete. Pull the real JPEGs from your phone too. Phone photos of the actual room beat the Squarespace stock you never replaced. Hours, phone, address, the one sentence about the work — put those in a note. That note is the brief. A screenshot of the current homepage helps so we do not invent a brand you never had.
What you do not take: the template, the built-in commerce, the member area, the Squarespace-only blocks, the blog engine, the form that only emails inside their system. Those stay in the mall. A done-for-you marketing site is a layout from your brief, your photos, a tap-to-call number, a form that notifies tampasbestdj@gmail.com, title and meta tags, Open Graph, hosting setup, help pointing the domain, one round of changes. It is not a cart, an app, or a members area at this price. Those get a quote.
| Piece | Leaves with you | Stays in Squarespace |
|---|---|---|
| Domain you bought | Yes, if the account is yours | Only if you abandon it |
| Photos and copy | Yes — download first | The pretty arrangement of them |
| The live page at yourname.com | After you point DNS at new files | Until DNS changes |
| Editor, template, their commerce | No | Yes. That is the product you rented |
| A portable codebase | Not from export | — |
When staying is cheaper
Stay if you like the editor and you will actually log in next month. Stay if you swap a sale banner every Friday without asking anyone. Stay if the form works, the phone is tappable, the lock icon shows, and customers already use the page. A rebuild for sport is a waste. Run the current URL through a free check before you pay anyone, including us. If the bones work, keep paying rent and spend the Saturday on better photos.
Stay for another reason: you are in the middle of a product catalog you actually sell through Squarespace checkout. A $500* marketing site is not a store. We will not fake a cart at this price. Link the shop you already have, or ask for a store quote. Leaving “because I hate the bill” while the cart is making money is how you break the register to save on furniture.
What a rebuild here actually is
You pay. You send the brief: name, one sentence, photos, the Squarespace URL, domain login you will use on a call — not a password in a form. We draft. You get one round of changes. Files go on Bluehost or the host you already pay for. You point nameservers. SSL so the padlock shows. Basic SEO is a title, a meta description, and Open Graph. That is not a ranking prize. We do not promise #1 Google. We do not sell a “Squarespace killer” badge.
$100 down starts the full $1,000 job ($900 due before launch). That is not the sale. The $500 price is only if you pay in full by September 30, 2026. If all you need is hours, phone, and three pictures, skip the full path. The $27 one-page is that product. +$27 lifetime hosting on our server if you want it ($54). You still own the domain. You still click at the registrar.
Cancel Squarespace after the new URL loads for you on a phone, on cellular, not wifi. Test the form. Test tap-to-call. Then turn off the old plan so you do not pay two landlords. DNS can take minutes or a chunk of a day. The 72-hour clock is the build. The live-at-yourname.com clock is DNS. Worldwide, 24/7. Look at live work if you want to see what “rebuilt” means in this shop — Dodo, Pets Helping Pets, Tampa’s Best DJ, LazerMerch, petcalendar.pet, US Helping the World. Those are this shop’s own sites, not a fake client reel.
Free next step: paste the Squarespace URL and see the ten basics a customer notices in five seconds. Then pay $500* if you want a site you can actually move.
