DIY if you will finish it. Hire if you will not.
Should you DIY the website? Yes, if you will actually finish it. No, if “I’ll knock it out this weekend” is already in week three with lorem on the About page. That is the whole decision. Tools are cheap. Time is not. A half-built Wix, Canva, or Squarespace site with a picture of a phone number is worse than a simple page someone else shipped.
Cheap Fast Websites sells a standard marketing site for $1,000, or $500* if you pay in full by September 30, 2026. Hiring here is not a moral upgrade. It is a process: pay, brief, draft, one revision, live. Most standard jobs finish in under 72 hours when the brief is clear. You are not the designer next Saturday. If you like the editor and you will log in next month, keep the editor. Do not pay $500* to please a cousin who thinks every business needs a “real” site this afternoon.
When DIY is the right call
- You enjoy clicking. You will actually open the builder next Friday to swap a sale banner.
- You are testing a name for 60 days and might shut it down.
- The page already works: lock icon, tap-to-call, a form you have tested. Stay. Run the free check before you pay anyone, including us.
- A weekend event, a menu you will throw away, a pretty link for a slide deck. Canva or Carrd can be enough. See Canva as a homepage.
- You already live in Square, Vagaro, or a Facebook shop and only need a URL that points there.
If that is you, stay. A dead custom site is worse than a live DIY page with a working phone. We will not talk you out of a tool you use. Read how to get a website if you want the steps without a hire. The list is still: name, host, DNS, a phone on the first screen.
When DIY is how the site never launches
Three weekends in. Template still says “Welcome to our website.” Hours are wrong. The form 404s. The card will charge $16–$40 a month until you find the cancel menu. That is the usual case, not a rare one. The builder is an editor. You are still the designer, the writer, and the IT person. AI drafts do not change that. They fill the page with sentences you would not say out loud, then you spend Sunday deleting them.
| You DIY | You hire this shop | |
|---|---|---|
| Year-one cash | Builder plan + your hours, often $192–$480 in rent | $500* once, or $27 for a page |
| Who finishes it | You, on evenings you already work | Us, from a brief |
| When it is live | Whenever you stop tinkering | Usually under 72 hours if the facts are in |
| You can leave with the site | Usually no — leaving Wix, Squarespace, Canva is a rebuild | Yes — files and a host you control |
| Edits later | You in the editor, if the block still exists | Quoted. Small changes are normal |
| SEO in the job | Whatever the platform’s toggle does | Title, meta, Open Graph. Not a #1 prize |
Two years of a $25 plan is $600. Three is $900. That is already the neighborhood of a $500* site, and you still rent. The intro coupon is not the renewal. Read the builder bill over two years. If you already decided to leave, leaving is a rebuild — Wix and Squarespace do not export a portable homepage.
AI site builders do not change the math. They draft a page that sounds like a page. You still have to put the hours, crop the photos, test the form on a phone, and own the logins. If you like that work, do it. If you opened this tab because you already tried, hiring is the cheaper Saturday. The brief here is facts, not a prompt: name, what you do, photos of the real place, current URL if any, domain or a yes that we should help. See what to send in the brief.
What hiring here actually is
You pay on /sale/. You send the name, one sentence about the work, photos of the real place, the current URL if any, the domain or a yes that we should help. We draft. A person proofs it. You send one list of changes. It goes live on Bluehost or the host you already have. You still click at the registrar. We do not steal the name. See /hire/.
$100 down starts the $1,000 job ($900 due). That is not the sale. $500 is pay-in-full by September 30, 2026 only. Not a payment plan. If all you need is hours, phone, and three photos this weekend, skip the full path. The $27 one-page is that product. You host it. +$27 lifetime hosting on our server if you want it ($54). Do not pay $500* for a page that should have been $27, and do not send a $27 receipt with a 12-page creative brief.
A cart, an app, or a members area is not in this price. Those get a quote. Basic SEO is tags, not a map-pack campaign. We will not promise #1 on Google for a page you were going to build in Wix. Nobody honest will. Live work: /work/ — Dodo, Pets Helping Pets, Tampa’s Best DJ, LazerMerch, petcalendar.pet, US Helping the World. This shop’s own sites, not fake client revenue. Labeled samples: /examples/.
Bill is in Tampa / Zephyrhills. No public storefront. Worldwide, 24/7. Phone 813-451-2204. Forms notify tampasbestdj@gmail.com. If the DIY page already passes the boring tests, keep it. If it is a pretty blank with a stock skyline, paying once is often cheaper than another year of “I’ll finish it on Sunday.”
Free next step: paste whatever you have now — Wix, Canva, a parked domain, nothing. Then pay $500* if you are done being the designer.
